Home Sweet Home

Building ...
Preparing ...
Getting Ready...
Making our House a Home

That is what we have been up to this past week.

Since we began the process to become a transition home for babies to 2 year olds we quickly realized we were not a "baby proof'" household. We made lists, bought supplies, and have been at work to get things ready.

We have also had some other help from the Sower4Pastors.  Russell and a team came over to build a roof for our back porch.  Without a porch we would not have anywhere to wash and hang clothes to dry in the rainy season. They did a fantastic job on the roof!

We still have many more projects on our lists of "to do's", but this video below shows some of the work that has been accomplished.  Enjoy!

The Passion of the Christ

This is not going to be a usual blog, but oh such an important one.

One evening I was going through different movie titles trying to decide what I wanted to watch.  And I came across "The Passion of The Christ."  When I came across this movie I reminded myself that I had not seen this movie, (although I am not quite sure how I had not seen it seeing as how it came out in 2004).  So with Easter coming up and again the fact that I have not seen it, I decided I would watch it.  As I sat there watching the movie I began to shed some tears and went into some deeper thinking. I began to recall some Bible verses.

John 3:16 came to mind:
16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."

This verse has a deeper meaning to me now that I am a father.  I couldn't imagine sending little Emma off knowing she was being sent to be brutally tortured and killed, but God did. God loves each and every one of us, and because of this love He provided a way for us to have an eternal life with Him.

Some other verses that came to mind were Matthew 16:21-28:
21 From then on Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem, and that he would suffer many terrible things at the hands of the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be raised from the dead.22 But Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things. “Heaven forbid, Lord,” he said. “This will never happen to you!”23 Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.”24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. 25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. 26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?[l] Is anything worth more than your soul? 27 For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father and will judge all people according to their deeds.28 And I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom.”

The red/underlined verse is the one I really wanted to highlight.  So many people think that when they get saved that everything will all be an easy walk on the beach, but I want to let you know that this is not the case.

When you read the Bible about the crucifixion and see how Jesus was mocked, spat on, beaten until the point of not being recognized, they pulled his beard out, punched him, put a spear in his side, and many other gruesome and horrific things. Then after the beatings they made Jesus carry the cross through the streets to the place of execution.  This is what it means to pick up your cross and follow Jesus.  You will be persecuted.  It won"t be easy, but it is so worth it.  Follow wherever Jesus would have you to be.

The greatest part of the crucifixion is that it doesn't end when Jesus took his last breath and went to the grave. Three days later Jesus conquered death and rose from the grave!  The awesome thing is that Jesus died on the cross for each and every one of us, and each and every one of our sins.  God wants ALL of us to take a part of His perfect plan, Every single person has a choice to make; to accept Jesus or reject Jesus.  Its the most important decision you will ever make.

Philippians 2:9-11  9 "Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

Coming to America

We have booked our tickets to come to the states in May!!

Notice I didn't say "coming home".  Where is our home?  What do we call home?  People say that home is where the heart is.  Well my heart is in 3 different places...
1. Honduras
2. The States
3. Heaven
As a christian our ultimate home is in Heaven. The Bible warns us not to become too comfortable here on earth. We are to be in the world, not of the world.  There is no promise of a comfortable life. Our lives on earth are but a vapor. Start looking to heaven as your home rather than a place you go when you die.  Lets be homesick for a place we have never been.

We are all very excited! It has been 5 to 6 months since we have seen family face to face (video calling is a wonderful thing.)  We will love the time that we will get to spend with family and friends. We are also looking forward to sharing our passion with others. Telling others how God is moving here and what is to come in the future.

Ben, Julie, and the girls will be flying in on May 2nd and will be flying out on May 23rd.  Austin and Taylor will be flying in on May 12th and flying out on June 3rd.

We are willing (but not limited to) to speak at Sunday morning services, Sunday night services, Wednesday night service, Youth groups, Small groups, Men's groups, Women's groups, and individuals that want to know more. We are prepared to share for anywhere from 10 minutes to your whole service -- we are flexible.

Ben and Julie have some availability from May the 4th through May the 18th.

Austin and Taylor have some availability from May 14th through June 1st.

If you would like to hear about how God is working in Honduras, how you can fill in the gap, or the possibility of a mission trip then get in contact with us.  If you would like for us to share at your church or in any other setting contact us. you can contact us through Facebook, email, or phone.

Look What God is Doing Now!

New Beginnings can lead to ... curiosity ... excitement ... awe ... happiness ... confusion ... fear ... anger ... sadness ... denial ... gratitude ... heightened awareness ... acceptance ... and many other emotions because along with a New Beginning is change and change effects us in ways that we cannot predict and we often go through most of these emotions as we experience change.

Last week, Julie asked for you to pray for our home church as the church goes through its own New Beginning.  This morning as we worshiped with our home church through the internet, we too are experiencing many of these emotions.  It is exciting to us to see how God is reconciling brothers and sisters in Christ and bringing these three churches together in unity to create a new body of Christ in Camden County, Georgia.  Even as we are full of excitement and wonder at what God is doing, we realized that suddenly overnight there are now more people in our church family that we don't really know than there are that we know.  Without doubt, many of the families of those three former churches will experience that same realization.  They will experience that things are no longer as they were.....BUT GOD!  God said, "Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old (Isaiah 43:18)".  In other words, don't drive around spending most of your time looking in the rear view mirror.  We are still very much in our own transition here in Honduras, but we have been far enough in it to know that we cannot focus on what was or we would want to return to where we were rather than press forward with what God has now called us to do.  As God led the Israelites out of slavery and persecution in Egypt, the Israelites looked back and wanted to return because it was what they knew and the future was unknown.

God continued his exhortation in Isaiah, "Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it (Isaiah 43:19)?"  God is doing a new thing in Camden County, Georgia -- do you perceive it?  While churches all over the USA are fighting, splitting, and focusing on their own selfish desires, God is at work in Camden County reconciling His Body and is bringing three churches from different backgrounds together in order to be Better Together".  This morning was the kickoff celebration service to celebrate what God has done, but it is a work that continues as the members of these three bodies figure out how to become one body.

God is always at work to bring about His will and to bring glory to His name!  God is at work here in Honduras as He does a new work in our lives so that through us He can give a New Beginning to children and to the people of Western Honduras.  God is at work in Camden County Georgia as He creates this New Beginning for the members of these faith families and for the people of Camden County.  God is at work in your life, wherever you are, to give you a New Beginning.  Maybe you are in a really bad place right now and you desperately need a New Beginning for yourself -- God wants to give you that New Beginning through Christ Jesus.  Maybe you are in a good place and want to stay there -- remember God is still at work and wants to do so much more with you for His glory so allow Him to do a new work in you as well.

And finally, if you have found yourself in the middle of a transition -- you will go through all of these emotions at some point.  Don't loose focus -- keep your eye on the goal that is before you and stay the course -- finish the race .... for the glory and honor of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

In the Name of Christ Jesus
